Our heritage kitchens often encompass multiple rooms including fitted and freestanding cabinets, pantries, sculleries, boot rooms, dining tables, sideboards occasional furniture and panelling. Our designs draw on our knowledge and understanding of historic British furniture which enables it to seamlessly fit into historical surroundings. We often place vintage and antique pieces into the mix to for a timeless look.
Our influences come from classical and historic Georgian cabinets with beautiful proportions which match in spirit – not precise detail. We love the ‘below stairs’ look and the values of the Arts and Crafts movement.
Our experience of working closely with trades, architects and project managers ensures all details are covered.
Listed buildings generally need careful consideration, often as a result of plumbing and electrical requirements. Our understanding of these situations means we can create furniture tailored to the exact required dimensions whilst still using traditional proportions and manufacturing techniques. We find our truly unfitted and freestanding approach enables us to design beautiful furniture around wonky walls and unusual spaces.
Case Study: The Priory
This historic Priory in Oxfordshire was in need of some updating by its new owners, a family with two young children. We designed a kitchen and scullery with freestanding and fitted furniture. Working closely with the client, architects and trades, we created a warm and bright environment which complemented the building's original features and maintained the character of the house. We enjoyed the process thoroughly and immersed ourselves in the detail (thank you to our lovely client for trusting us!) – down to the panelling in the corridors and our custom-designed tiles for the walk-in pantry.
